I upgraded and just had a chance to sit and look and found that the front page was all messy on the sidebar and wanted to take a look at how to fix it and put it back the way it was.

The style.css file now contains a line which tells <em> to become italicized, the sidebar inside Acabado homepage is apparently contained within an <em> so this change applies to the homepage.

dfn,em,i,blockquote{font-style:italic}

So to remove the italics you want to add the following CSS, but this starts other issues.

em {
  font-style:normal;
}

As em is used in many places where you may want this italicized text to stay we need to move up the chain, when I was searching it appeared to me only to happen on the main page sidebar. So instead you would want to target the homepage with this modification.

This would allow it to function correctly on your posts and pages, just not to impact the generated homepage.

body.home em {
    font-style:normal;
}

Then I saw the italics was corrected but now I had super bold text in the sidebar that just visually didn’t match up how the rest of the site looked.

Again when I went to check this only happens on the homepage so instead of starting over I added a second CSS to try and clear up the text and make it normal weight and not the Franklin Bold font.

body.home strong{
   font-weight: normal;
   font-family: "libre_franklinregular", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
}

Now it was all looking nice and back to normal, but I like to keep things tidy so I merged them into a single code block which better helps ensure your Custom CSS doesn’t get filled with excess lines.

body.home strong em {
    font-weight: normal;
    font-family: "libre_franklinregular", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
    font-style: normal;
}

This now contains and cleans up the front of the page and removes the mis-matched look that the website had over the change, I do hope a bug fix will remedy, I already placed on on Incomeschool.com/acabado-support and would suggest you do the same so they have numerous votes to get this one resolved.

  1. I would be interested to know if you can make a gutenberg button with any color background with a Black font. For me it always shows white font color, yet browser dev tools show the color as #000000.

    1. Yes, there is a default setting for Acabado for almost everything in the style.css file. I would suggest using unset to clear the stored setting so that you can then actually make a estting that differs from their core.

      Something similar to:

      .button {
      background-color:unset;
      }

  2. Hello Josh, I tried applying
    body.home strong em {
    font-weight: normal;
    font-family: “libre_franklinregular”, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
    font-style: normal;
    }
    this css, but it is not working for me, can you please help me out?

    1. Did you flush your server cache, plugin cache, your personal browser cache and then if you run ads Ezoic has their cache along with SiteSpeed cache. These are all the things which cause the code to not load as you have a stored version being served.

  3. Hey Josh, I tried this but it didn’t change the category and tag pages. I replaced the body.home section with .article-card

    This kinda worked for me. I don’t know how to change the other stuff in the sidebar and footer but I guess it looks a bit better now on all the pages.

    Thanks for your help, I’d be completely lost without you.
