Using Header And Footer Code Manager (HFCM)

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases made on our website. If you make a purchase through links from this website, we may get a small share of the sale from Amazon and other similar affiliate programs. You can read our complete legal information for more details.

The HFCM plugin is a very helpful plugin that doesn’t add bloat to your site but allows you to have managed code that can be used for many different functionalities. It is how I do Google Analytics on this site, for example.

The plugin is built to allow you to add code that needs to either run on the header side or in the footer side to be in the appropriate area for the functions.

This is also how you add the Amazon Popover code for mobile popups of your product links. It is how I also built the breadcrumb and scroll to top as a function within the Acabado theme.

Unlike many other plugins, you can add this to your website without adding massive delays in load speed.

Simple Admin Menu Addition allows access to new or existing snippets of code.

The header of the plugin has some columns which help describe the information contained.

  • ID: The number, starting at 1, of created snippets
  • Status: Active or Deactivated
  • Snippet Name: What you choose to understand the codes purpose
  • Display On: Site wide, posts, page, specific post, specific page
  • Location: Header or Footer
  • Devices: Whether Desktop and Mobile or Mobile Only (helpful for things like amazon popover that you want on mobile only.)
  • Shortcode: The shortcode the program can use to place itself

Once you create a new snippet you have the ability to select all kinds of settings, most are what was portrayed on the front end as we described above.

This is where you add your chosen snippet of code, many cases this will be JavaScript, as that is whats used for ads, tracking codes and similar additional code for your website.

Hopefully this helps give you some understanding about HFCM and why it can be valuable to you when you are building a site to allow you to manage the code added to your site and change when and where it should run.

  1. Hey Josh, We’re experiencing problems with the acabado theme including the use of elementor. When we use the shortcode widget, it does not display the content(which is a forminator Quiz plugin) of the shortcode or even just the plain shortcode, nothing appears there, even when we load the site in incognito window. But when we put in the shortcode in elementor it looks fine and when we preview the page in elementor it looks fine but in private browser it does not appear(it should be appearing above the map). The website we are working on is moodfoodquiz.com

    Thanks,

    Jase

  2. Great but there is a code from Google tag manager – the second GTM code – that requires installation below head and before /body> body closing tag. I can’t put it in header or footer. Not sure what plugin to use. I would rather not use another plugin. I tried making a child theme but get ACF error (advanced custom fields.)

    1. You should use HFCM, Add one as header snippet and one as footer snippet. There is no solid child theme without slowly breaking the theme which is why I migrated away from them.
